Hernandes Faustino de Carvalho, Ph.D

Full Professor at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences (1987), a Master’s degree in Cell Biology (1989), and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry (1993) from UNICAMP. He has extensive experience in Cellular and Molecular Biology, with emphasis on Extracellular Matrix and Prostate Biology. He served three terms as Head of the Department of Cell Biology at the Institute of Biology. He was Coordinator of the Pharmacy Program at UNICAMP (2007–2008) and coordinated the module “The Cell” in the Medical Program, in addition to being responsible for courses in Cellular and Molecular Biology in the Biological Sciences program. He served as a Board Member of the Brazilian Society for Cell Biology (2002–2004) and as President of the same society (2006–2008; 2014–2016). He was a member of the CNPq Advisory Committee for Molecular Biology (2006–2008) and President of the Federation of Experimental Biology Societies (2017–2019; 2019–2021). He served as Vice-President for the Biological Sciences Area of the Brazilian Society for Microscopy and Microanalysis (2023–2025). He coordinated INCT-INFABIC from 2008 to 2025 and served as Secretary-General of the International Federation for Cell Biology (IFCB) from 2008 to 2022. He was a member of the CNPq Deliberative Council (2020–2024) and of the Higher Council of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC). He is Associate Editor of Frontiers in Oncology and Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology. He was elected Director of the Institute of Biology at UNICAMP for the term 2022–2026. He also served as Professor at Ilum School / CNPEM (2023–2024).
